Whoever owns CZ is absolutely out of his mind. For that price, I could get 3 romanian AK's. 7.62x39, is getting harder to find and the price of all ammo has gone up. $37 per magazine for a 30 rounder?

I can't even wrap my mind around all that... are they trying to lose money?

Perhaps stores will sell for less that MSRP. But still, it will take $700 to make it competative in the market. And they should have made it accept milsurp AK mags.

The VZ 58 isn't in competition with the WASR. The closest AK equivalent is the milled rifles from Vector, Arsenal and Landcaster and it's competitively priced against them. They are also nearly half the price that they were going for when American builders were making them out of kits. They have some features the AK doesn't.

The VZ 58's are good guns, I would consider one. What I'd really like to see though is a US legal RK95.

Yup, nowadays Arsenal is charging milled prices for stamped AK's. I'm fairly disapointed and don't buy their excuses.

What excuses are they making? And why are their prices going up so drastically?

Arsenal has been killing off and reviving their milled rifles for a while now. They always say it just costs too much to manufacture a milled AK in the US. Weird, DS Arms manages to make milled FAL's and the FAL is a damn sight more complicated than an AK yet they sell for comparable prices. Then they roll out stamped AK's for very near the price of milled AK's. They're just chasing a buck, they'll probably kill their business in the pursuit. Too bad, the products themselves are nice.

If they offered 10 round magazines it would be 100% California Legal. :D

Until the AG decided to ban it by name. :thumpdown

But everyone who bought one under the wire would be allowed to keep it*.

*And don't tell me to move to a Free State--if this one goes under yours will soon follow, if only because all the socialists here will move there.

Why is Milled better/ How would you know if you were looking at it?

Thanks

Reciever is heavier, it's forged, so it's very tough. There are no rivets, bends, welds etc. as might be found on a regular reciever.

That is the main advantage of a milled receiver, it is exceptionally tough, precisely made, doesn't flex, dent or break easily when subjected to punishment by personnel.

The downside is it's a lot costlier as it needs to be properly forged, then CNC machined, which takes a lot of time/effort and CNC machine time.

It's a major part of a firearm like a barrel, so go for the best, if you are buying something like that, it's likely because you feel your life depends on it to work properly, so why economize on that?

Doesn't a milled receiver defeat all of the benefits of an AK action? The AK stamped receiver is very forgiving in unpleasant circumstances. Sure it may not be as accurate, but nobody owns an AK to win target-shooting trophies.
